He was discharaged 9 nov 1965 at the end of the war. He was envolved in battles at Nashville,Tennessee, Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Mobile Alabama.

Nicholas served in the regular Army enlisting at Fort Wayne , Indiana on 18 Dec 1901 as a private in Co. C of the 30th Infantry. He was sent to Columbus, Ohio for training and after a short time was sent to Oakland, California. His Reg. boarded a ship for the Philippines but after a day or two at sea the got into such a bad storm that the ship took on water and had to return to Oakland after an outbreak of smallpox, where all were placed in quarantine for several weeks. Finally sailing for Manila by way of Honolulu. They arrived in the Philipines 21 apr 1902. He spent a year and a half there, being promoted to Corp. He was given the privilege of going back yo the U.S. or joining the U.S, Legation in Pekin, China which he choose. He arrived in China, 8 nov. 1903at which time he was transfered to Co. b 9th Reg. He served in Pekin until 17 Dec. 1904 when his three year enlistment was up. He was discharged in Pekin and on the return trip stopped in Japan and Honolulu for three weeks. He engaged in the grocery buisness for many years in Noble county. He was a member of the Veterans of foreign wars and always took part in any activities of the Veterans. The american Legion gave him a full military funeral.
Enlisted in Army Air Corp 10 Jan 1942. Was sent to Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. He served in the 421st Technical School as an airplane mechanic. S.S.#312-14-8306.
